One million Euro boost to northern hospital

This donation was made in line with the longstanding commitment made by the
German Red Cross to Sri Lanka. A German anaesthetist is currently stationed at
the hospital to train the local staff.
German Ambassador Jens Plotner recently toured Vavuniya and Mannar districts to
learn at firsthand the ongoing resettlement process. The spokesperson quoted the
Ambassador as saying that the Chettikulam hospital had borne the brunt of
maternity care of the war displaced. "Even after the full settlement of all
IDPs, the local population will continue to benefit from the German Support," he
was quoted as saying.
