Press Trust of India (PTI) quoting India’s External Affairs Minister S M Krishna states that India has emphasized that a political settlement that could be acceptable to all communities should be reached soon.

According to the report S M Krishna had said "the conclusion after the military operations in Sri Lanka has provided an opportunity to make a new beginning and pursue a lasting political settlement in Sri Lanka." He had said that India would pressurize the government of Sri Lanka regarding such a settlement.

Mr. Krishna had said they would expect a peacefully negotiated political settlement within the framework of a united Sri Lanka acceptable to all the communities.
